Last year I went to my first DPUMS (Denver Post Underground Music Showcase). Had a great time and saw tons of music I wouldn’t have otherwise seen. It’s a browser’s market — with so many venues so close together you can keep walking until you find something you like. Okay, sure, this may look like […]

This is how it happened: Three weeks ago I was coding away at work, and the Post’s features editor came by to check out the day’s Rocky. We were chatting, he asked how my girlfriend was, and I told him “We’re going to Tetris League tomorrow, it’s the only competitive tetris league in the country.” […]

Haven’t written many words here lately. Let me explain the reasons, in ordered-list format:
Been doing a lot of personal-type writing on my twitter account. For the best of these tweets, check our free rooster, bumper cars, destructoblade-wheelchair, Revenge is sweet, and blood is salty.
Also, I had this whole “What can go wrong with (the back […]

Hey y’all,
Here’s a bunch of stuff that’s awesome and you oughta know:
JJ, whose photo portfolio web site I built, is selling a book of his detailed Chicago photography for 30 bucks. Thirty bucks! That makes a great gift!
My employer, The Denver Post, won an Online News Association award last month for “General Excellence” among medium-sized […]

I’ve spent three of the past four fiirst-Tuesday-in-November-nights working on online election coverage. Each of those have been challenging — 2004 it was just dealing with all the information, 2006 was figuring out the streaming video shtuff, and this year, even though it was an off year, had a last-minute data thrill: We decided to […]

I wrote this for the Post’s Haiku of the Week gig:
Double-u oh arrr,
Kay, hey, it’s time. The morning
bugle bleats your name.

So says Forbes. Denver’s ranked on the top of Forbes’ “Best Cities for Singles” list three years in a row, until this one. Forbes says it’s the methodology that caused Denver’s plummet. I wrote more about it on the Denver Post Neighbors blog.

Hey y’all,
Saturday night my employer, the Post, throws its 7th-annual Underground Music Festival. Well, not Saturday night. Saturday afternoon, evening and night. It’s $10 before the show (tix at www.dpums.com), $12 day-of. I don’t know half the bands playing, and that’s a whole bunch of the fun.
Here’s more info on the event:
YouTube videos of some […]

So, this afternoon I launched the sneak preview of the ‘big thing’ I’ve been building at work. It’s the Denver “Neighbors” section, and it’s got Denver news, photos, blog posts, and my favorite: the most-popular article list of what Denver readers (that might be you!) are reading.
Check it out at http://neighbors.denverpost.com/denver. Also, if you live […]
