Last year I went to my first DPUMS (Denver Post Underground Music Showcase). Had a great time and saw tons of music I wouldn’t have otherwise seen. It’s a browser’s market — with so many venues so close together you can keep walking until you find something you like. Okay, sure, this may look like […]

My friend JJ got me a book a couple months age — it’s the 33 1/3 “How-This-Record-Came-Into-Existence” series’ book on Born in the USA. Bruce Springsteen and I go back — I was eight years old, with my mom and my sister in a K-Mart, and we were in the music section. My mom gave […]

New Year’s Eve I witnissed a dj spin to a crowd of 50 people, and zero dancers. Not just zero for a song or two, but zero for most every song. I like putting myself in my enemy’s head, so here’s a list of the four things I came up with that dj could have […]

Well, not here, but the mp3 blog Said the Gramaphone has the mp3 up for a limited time. It’s a great great song, from Okkervil River (a former favorite-band-ever of mine) and on their new album The Stage Names.
Get the mp3 here, and read the entry about it and others here. Hurry!

Saturday a bunch of local bands played the Denver Post Underground Music Festival, which was the biggest local music fest I’ve ever seen, and the most fun I’ve had on a Saturday in Denver. So much good stuff. Here are the ‘most interesting’ Flickr photos from the event. These are the ones I took. And […]

Hey y’all,
Saturday night my employer, the Post, throws its 7th-annual Underground Music Festival. Well, not Saturday night. Saturday afternoon, evening and night. It’s $10 before the show (tix at www.dpums.com), $12 day-of. I don’t know half the bands playing, and that’s a whole bunch of the fun.
Here’s more info on the event:
YouTube videos of some […]

Virb’s yet another social networking site, and it’s a place you can listen to my friend Tom’s (music name Tommy Slax) new album. If you dig it you can buy tracks from the album (The Spaulding Years) here… it’s an interesting site — tracks are about 16 cents a pop, but the more people who […]

It’ll be the same without you
Mistakes were made
Baby, I know what you’re thinking
Compulsively yours
Yoko’s in the band
Like someone in love
We’re all in this alone
The big letdown
Molly, please stop touching me
This is the band’s site, and this is the sad sad news.
